Frequently Asked Questions about Genacol®
Answers1 — What is the difference between collagen and glucosamine? In the composition of cartilage, we find 67 % of collagen versus 1% of glucosamine. Glucosamine is an aminosaccharide, while collagen is a molecular complex containing amino acids. Glucosamine is found in interesting quantities only in the liquid of the synovial membrane. Collagen is also found in the synovial membrane, but in larger quantities since the protein structure is more abundant in the body. Glucosamine acts more like a lubricant in the joints while contributes to global regeneration of the joint at all levels: tendons, ligaments, cartilage, muscles, membranes and synovial liquid (lubrication). 2 — What's the difference between Genacol® and other products such as those containing Type II collagen?Genacol® is a matrix generated by a procedure called AminoLock® Sequence Technology developed by DirectLab Inc. This matrix stems from a complex procedure which promotes many types of collagen, thus making it a far more complete product than the ones using only Type II collagen. 3 — Why is it suggested to take Genacol® at bedtime? It is suggested to take Genacol® at bedtime, because it is in the alpha phase, i.e., the first 90 minutes of sleep, that the body repairs itself. At this precise point, the body searches for the nutrients that are necessary for its regeneration. The essential nutrients contained in Genacol® (amino acids) will be used at this precise time in an optimum manner. Therefore, it's better to take it at bedtime. Even though it's better to take Genacol® at night, certain circumstances make it impossible to take it at that time. It would then be preferable to take it in the morning, 30 minutes before breakfast. 4 — What is the ideal dosage? If you drink about 1.5 litres of water per day (note that this quantity is the one recommended for good health and not only for the consumption of Genacol®), you can begin with 3 capsules per day at bedtime. If you are not used to drinking this minimum quantity of water, start with 1 capsule per day during the first week, increase the quantity of water you drink, and then you may go on to the recommended dosage. After a few weeks of treatment and in order to optimize the results, you can double the dose to 6 capsules per day, i.e., 3 at bedtime and 3 before breakfast. Caution: for people taking medications, it would be preferable to leave a two-hour period between Genacol and any medication. 5 — How long must I take Genacol®?We suggest taking Genacol® for 3 to 6 months, beginning with 3 capsules per day, and then, progressively decrease to the dosage that best suits you. In cases of degenerative diseases, to maintain the beneficial effects and avoid the recurring problems of pain and discomfort, it is suggested to take Genacol® on a permanent basis. 6 — Under which other conditions would it be interesting to take Genacol®?Besides arthritis, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia, Genacol® can be used in cases of tendonitis, bursitis, hernia, carpal tunnel syndrome and all other auto-immune diseases, as well as for aesthetic purposes such as toning the skin and muscles. Generally speaking, Genacol® can be used in cases of joint and muscle pain, as well as to help moisturize and tone the skin. 7 — Who should take Genacol®?Given that the body produces less collagen with aging, every adult can benefit from Genacol®. 8 — Can I take Genacol® if I am diabetic?Contrary to glucosamine, Genacol® should not affect the glucose level in your blood. Proteins do not affect blood sugar levels. And since Genacol® is a protein, you can safely use this product without any fear, with the advice of your health care professional. Therefore people with diabetes can benefit fully from our collagen product, Genacol® 9 — Can I take Genacol® if I have a fragile stomach?Yes, there is no contraindication in taking Genacol® for people with a fragile stomach. To facilitate digestion, you can remove the collagen powder from the capsule and take it with water. 10 — Is Genacol® absorbed by the body?Yes, absolutely, up to more than 98%. The protein is already pre-digested and micronized, to provide better absorption. 11 — Are there certain health conditions in which it is not recommended taking Genacol®?Collagen products are generally recognized as safe. Still, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, the information currently available is not sufficient with regards to the safe use of collagen. According to Health Canada, manufacturers of natural products are not authorized to pronounce themselves on the subject. We, therefore, recommend that you get a medical opinion. 12 — Can I take Genacol® with medicines or supplements? As far as we know, there is no medical interaction when using Genacol®. Naturally, tryptophan is not part of the chain of amino acids found in collagen. Every capsule contains 400 mg. of our pure collagen matrix without filling agents, which makes Genacol® one of the purest collagen supplements on the market. 14 — What's the meaning of AminoLock® Sequence Technology? We use a unique manufacturing process called AminoLock® Sequence Technology, which in turn generates an enzymatic process that reconfigures the profile of amino acids. This exclusive approach developed by our Research & Development Division meets the highest nutraceutical standards, creating a unique product promoting the five main types of collagen and using specific sequence of amino acids. 15 — From which source do the amino acids from Genacol® come from?Genacol® is composed of hydrolyzed collagen proteins, that is to say, purified with a unique enzymatic process. Further on, DirectLab Inc., through its AminoLock® Sequence Technology, only uses certain fragments of bovine protein from Germany (subcutaneous source, therefore there is no contact with the animal's blood or organs) that have undergone strict and thorough analysis to guarantee that the product is totally safe as no types of mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) or any other illnesses have been detected in the subcutaneous part of the bovine. The product is certified by the government of Canada and by Health Canada among other agencies to meet the highest nutraceutical standards. 16 — Can I give Genacol® to my pet?Indeed, the good news is that you can give Genacol® to your pet. You just have to calculate one capsule per 40 lbs. To achieve excellent results, open the capsule and give the powder in it to your pet daily between meals (empty stomach). Place the powder on a dry and clean surface. Pets normally love it! There is no chance you give an overdose of collagen to your pet as the body naturally eliminates any excess. |
